Gullies are blocked to prevent further erosion and provide conditions for vegetation to grow back. This work is part of the Natural England Conservation Plans Project.

Moorland restoration in progress
Spreading heather brash to encourage the regrowth of vegetation on bare peat to help restore areas of degraded moorland in the Peak District.
MoorLIFE Monitoring video
We are undertaking a monitoring programme to determine the success of the conservation works. As well as looking at how well vegetation establishes on the bare peat, we have started to monitor the hydrology and peat erosion / accumulation rates to see how these change following the works.
